Commonwealth Games: Louise Martin to stand for presidency

Scot Louise Martin will challenge for the presidency of the Commonwealth Games Federation at September's General Assembly in Auckland, New Zealand.

Martin, who was vice chair of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, has been the honorary secretary of the CGF.

She will challenge incumbent, Prince Imran of Malaysia, for the presidency.

"I've always had the ambition to become President at some stage, and now is the time for me to stand," Martin said.

Martin, who has been honorary secretary for four Games, declared her intention to stand for the presidency after the CGF board meeting in London last week.

Imran, elected in 2011 to succeed Jamaica's Michael Fennell, revealed he would stand for a second term at the board meeting.

Martin told insidethegames: "My position as honorary secretary finishes in September, because the corporate structure is changing.

"I get along very well with him [Prince Imran]. He's a friend and I respect everything he's done."
