Shinty: North and south quarter-finals produce 50 goals

Shinty's north and south area championships provided a goal fest with eight quarter-final ties producing 50 of them.

Leading the way was Kyles' 14-0 defeat of Ardnamurchan in the Celtic Society Cup.

Holders Oban Camanachd prevailed 9-0 in their derby against Oban Celtic, also highlighting the lack of depth in south shinty.

The top score in the north's MacTavish Cup came in Portree, where Skye eclipsed Inverness 6-1.

Holders Kingussie progressed 4-0 away to Caberfeidh and Newtonmore scraped home 3-2 against lower league Kilmallie.

Lovat went second in the Mowi Premiership with a 4-1 defeat of Glenurquhart in Drumnadrochit and Kinlochshiel went fourth with a 5-0 home win over Lochaber.

Scott MacDonald was Kyles' top scorer, netting five of his double hat-trick in the second half and Conor Kennedy contributed a further treble.

Oban Camanachd's blitz comprised four in just 18 first half minutes from Lewis Cameron, a Matthew Sloss hat-trick and a Malcolm Clark double.

Elsewhere, in the Celtic Society Cup, Campbell Watt gave Inveraray a 1-0 success away to Col Glen and Calum Morrison's double helped Glasgow Mid Argyll to a 4-1 defeat of Bute at Yoker.

Iain MacInnes, Kenny Cushnie, Dan MacDonald, Murphy Henderson, William MacKinnon and Jamie Gillies all scored for Skye and Ruaraidh Hughes made a late response for Inverness.

A Dylan Borthwick hat-trick, supported by Savio Genini, put Kingussie through.

Struan Ross and a Drew MacDonald double gave Newtonmore a 3-0 half-time lead before Shane O'Rua and Martyn Cameron struck back for Kilmallie.

There will be a lower league presence in the MacTavish semi-finals after Fort William defeated Beauly 4-1 at An Aird in a clash of the sides heading the National Division.

Cam Stephen, Graham Campbell, Archie MacKinnon and Ryan Boyle all scored for Fort, while Beauly's response came from Ryan MacKay at 2-0.
