Amber Hill earns Great Britain an Olympics quota place with shooting World Cup win

Amber Hill represented Team GB at the Rio Olympics and won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast

Amber Hill earned Great Britain a Tokyo Olympic Games quota place with victory in the women's skeet at the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in New Delhi, India.

Hill, who represented Team GB at Rio 2016, took gold following a shoot-off with Kazakhstan's Zoya Kravchenkoi.

It was her first competition of the year after several postponements because of Covid-19 restrictions.

"I honestly didn't expect it to go as well as it did," said the 23-year-old.

Hill shot a qualification world record of 124/125 - and after she and Kravchenkoi finished level on 51 apiece in the final, she won the shoot-off 4-3, with India's Ganemat Sekhon taking bronze.

"To shoot 124 and equal the world record in qualifiers and then go on to win the gold medal has been amazing," she added.

"We've taken so many precautions with masks and endless sanitising but it's been so worth it. It really feels like all the hard work has paid off.

"I'd just like to say a massive thank you to all the support team at British Shooting for making this possible, despite how challenging it's been this year.

"Hopefully I've now secured my spot on the plane for Tokyo and this is just the start of the journey."
