Welsh qualifier Michael White thrashed crowd favourite Dechawat Poomjaeng 13-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the World Championship in Sheffield.
The 21-year-old from Neath resumed 7-1 ahead and wrapped up the six frames he needed to win with a session to spare.
White, ranked 41 in the world, will play Ricky Walden or Robert Milkins in the last eight starting on Tuesday.
Victory there would see him become the first debutant to reach the semi-finals since Andy Hicks in 1995.
White scored far more heavily than his Thai opponent, posting a break of 101 in the second frame and sealing his victory with 102, having also rattled in breaks of 83 and 73 from 10-2 up.
"I played well all the way through the game and I am just thrilled," White told BBC Sport. "I was playing well in the qualifiers so I thought I had every chance. To get to the quarter-finals is an unbelievable feeling."
Poomjaeng, who continued to entertain the crowd with his antics around the table, gave away the fourth frame without a ball being potted as three misses were called against him.
The world number 70, who upset Stephen Maguire in the opening round, could only manage a highest break of 51 in the match, and an enterprising 44 in the 14th frame only delayed the inevitable.
"He is a bit of a character and last [Thursday] night he was laughing and joking with the crowd, but I dealt with it pretty well," White added.
"I stayed in the zone and kept focused like I knew I had to."
Judd Trump showed signs of the form that took him to the Crucible final in 2011 as he opened up a 6-2 lead in his second-round match with Marco Fu.
The Hong Kong cueman took the opening two frames but a break of 109 got the world number three up and running.
Trump levelled at 2-2 at the interval and reeled off four more consecutive frames on the resumption including two more centuries - 127 and 112 - to establish a commanding lead.
They will resume at 1000 BST on Saturday and play to a finish on Saturday evening.
