UK Championship 2014: Murphy, Walden, Trump & Higgins through

Judd Trump reached the last 16 of the UK Championship in York with an efficient 6-3 win over Fraser Patrick.

The 2011 champion went 4-0 in front with a display of superb potting which included century breaks of 129 and 130.

John Higgins, the three-time champion, enjoyed a comfortable 6-2 victory over 2003 winner Matthew Stevens.

In the evening session, Shaun Murphy defeated Jack Lisowski 6-4 and Ricky Walden overcame three-time runner-up Ken Doherty 6-1 to advance.

Murphy, who won the competition in 2008, stroked in breaks of 80, 93 and 99 as he went through.

Higgins has struggled for form over the last couple of seasons but made a high break of 128 to progress into the last 16 where he will face fellow Scot Anthony McGill.

Having already won a ranking title this season - the Australian Open - Trump looked in confident form early on, before his Scottish opponent rallied to take three out of the next four frames and reduce the deficit to 5-3.

But the Bristol man was good enough to close out the match with a 104 clearance.

"Snooker is about confidence," Trump said. "I have put the work in a lot more than I have done in the past and that is purely because of the lack of results.

"I felt I had stayed still and the others around me had improved. I had to improve my safety and was very happy with that against Fraser."

He passed 300 career centuries in his victory over world number 84 Patrick, and now faces Mark Allen or Rod Lawler in the next round.
