World Snooker Championship: Judd Trump leads Ding Junhui

Judd Trump and Ding Junhui met in the 2011 semi-final of the world Championship

Judd Trump opened up a commanding 12-4 lead over Ding Junhui in the quarter-final of the World Championship.

Trump needs just one more frame to win, but Ronnie O'Sullivan controversially trails 5-3 to Stuart Bingham.

O'Sullivan broke snooker rules in the fifth frame when placing his chalk on the table. He escaped sanction but World Snooker is investigating.

Neil Robertson is 5-3 behind to Barry Hawkins, while Shaun Murphy holds a 9-7 lead over qualifier Anthony McGill.

Murphy opened with two century breaks and was 3-1 in front but rookie McGill, who defeated champion Mark Selby in the last round, won three in a row with breaks of 66, 89 and 65 to lead.

Murphy snatched the last frame to level at 4-4. In the evening session, McGill opened with a superb 137 break, but the pair exchanged frames to level at 6-6.

The 2005 champion took three of the next four, including a 127 break, to edge ahead in the match, and they play to a conclusion on Wednesday at 14:30 BST.

Trump close to semi-final

In a repeat of the 2011 semi-final, which Trump won, the Bristol man showed signs of reaching another final as he produced a devastating opening session against Ding.

The 25-year-old was in supreme form, making a century and four further half-centuries, as China's Ding finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh frame, before also taking the last to stay in touch.

Trump opened the second session with a century, and took the next two to go 9-2 ahead, before Ding pulled two back.

But Trump stroked in a magnificent 127 and 116 on his way to taking the last three frames of the session for a significant advantage.

They conclude on Wednesday at 10:00 BST and the winner will face O'Sullivan or Bingham in the semi-finals.

More O'Sullivan controversy

O'Sullivan placed his chalk on the table against WPBSA rules, but the incident went unpunished

'The Rocket' escaped a fine after briefly playing in his socks during the first round and opened this match with a century break and then a 118 in the fourth frame, either side of Bingham making 64 and 75.

However, O'Sullivan took the fifth to lead 3-2 in controversial circumstances, after placing his chalk on the table to line up a shot.

It should have been called a foul by referee Terry Camilleri - the rulebook states a seven-point penalty will be awarded to the opponent if a player uses any object to measure gaps or distances - but O'Sullivan was allowed to continue his break. World Snooker later announced it would look into the incident.

Bingham kept his composure and won three on the bounce to hold the advantage, with the pair continuing on Wednesday at 14:30 BST.

Robertson with work to do

Australian Robertson made four centuries including a 145 break - the highest of the tournament so far - as he eased past Ali Carter in the previous round.

Despite losing the first frame to Hawkins, he won three in a row before his opponent came back to level at 3-3.

A break of 96 edged the Englishman in front before taking the last frame to lead by two. They resume on Wednesday at 10:00 BST.
