Kyren Wilson completed a memorable 147 maximum break in his comfortable 10-5 first-round win against Ryan Day at the World Championship in Sheffield.
Englishman Wilson potted 15 reds, 15 blacks and all the colours for the 13th total clearance in Crucible history.
If the world number seven's break is not equalled at this year's tournament, he stands to earn £55,000 in additional prize money.
There is £40,000 on offer for a 147, and £15,000 for the highest break.
In achieving the feat, the beaten world finalist from 2020 also became only the ninth player to make a maximum at the Crucible.
"I'm absolutely buzzing. I'm so happy with that," said Wilson.
"I've said for a long time I want to leave a legacy - that's something my kids can watch back again. It's been on my bucket list.
"There's no pressure like it. I actually got a little bit distracted and when I got down for the [final] pink [ball] I couldn't feel my right arm. That will live long in the memory."
Australian Neil Robertson was the last player to make a maximum break there, in his second-round defeat by Jack Lisowski last year.
Wilson, 31, joins an exclusive club of players to make a 147 at the Crucible, alongside Cliff Thorburn, Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Williams, Ali Carter, John Higgins and Robertson.
Former world champion and BBC pundit Dennis Taylor said on commentary: "What a magnificent maximum break that is, handshakes all round.
"A standing ovation here in the Crucible Theatre. What a break that was from the 'Warrior', Kyren Wilson."
Wilson led Welshman Day 6-3 after the first session thanks to his maximum and further breaks of 133, 83, 51, 54 and 52.
And the five-time ranking event winner finished the job in style with runs of 120, 108, 94 and 102 in the concluding evening session to set up a meeting with John Higgins on Sunday.
Wilson's 102 match-winning break also saw him become the first player to make five centuries in a Crucible first-round match since O'Sullivan, the seven-time world champion, achieved the feat against Mark Allen in 2020.
Lisowski gets 'wake-up call'
Jack Lisowski, a beaten Crucible quarter-finalist last season, survived a spirited comeback from qualifier Noppon Saengkham to book his place in the second round with a 10-7 win.
The world number 13 led 6-3 overnight and added breaks of 52 and 65 as he moved within one frame of victory at 9-4.
But world number 32 Saengkham rallied with runs of 130 and 62 as he won three consecutive frames to trail by two.
However, he missed a chance to reduce the arrears to 9-8 as he faltered on a break of 51, and Lisowski took his chance to close out the match.
"That's a wake-up call for me," said Lisowski. "He [Saengkham] looked like he fancied the job.
"Things can turn here - I know I've got to be sharper my next match. But I'll keep believing."
