Result: Kyren Wilson 6-4 Luca Brecel

After Kyren Wilson misses a red to the corner, Luca Brecel almost completes an incredible clearance - but then misses the pink to the middle!

There's a fascinating bout of safety on the pink and eventually it's Wilson who knocks it in - he's through to the semi-final to face Judd Trump.

Frame 10 is another long one, the balls have gone very scrappy.

Kyren Wilson leads by 31 points with 43 left on the table, but there's next to no chance of clearing the table in one visit.

  3. Brecel keeps match alivepublished at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January

    Kyren Wilson 5-4 Luca Brecel

The ninth frame is the longest of the match and Luca Brecel takes it to keep this quarter-final going.

Kyren Wilson plays a tremendous plant down the cushion before leaving Brecel in trouble with a red waiting over the pocket. Brecel doesn't hit it.

Wilson jumps on the opportunity and disturbs the remaining reds beautifully - but he misses the pink when trying to screw back for the yellow.

Brecel clears the colours and, for the fourth time, he reduces his deficit to one frame.

    Kyren Wilson 5-3 Luca Brecel

Kyren Wilson already has a 30-point lead when he powers in a long red and leaves perfect position on the black.

One of the shots of the match and it sets up a chance to wrap up the frame - which he does.

The world champion needs one more frame to secure a place in the semi-finals against world number one Judd Trump on Saturday.

There's a re-rack and a safety battle at the start of frame seven, but then Luca Brecel hits the blue when trying to get back to baulk and he leaves Kyren Wilson right in among the balls.

A missed red with the rest ends his break on 25 and that lets Brecel back in.

The Belgian takes advantage with an 83 break and again there is only one frame separating the two players in this quarter-final.

Kyren's concentration levels have been fantastic. He's basically mopping up from his opponent's mistakes and that is just as impressive as people making hundred after hundred.

What's being left is all being taken care of and he's winning the frame in the visit when he goes to the table.

    It's very impressive.

  7. Wilson restores two-frame advantagepublished at 21:00 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January

    Kyren Wilson 4-2 Luca Brecel

Luca Brecel gets another decent chance to score heavily but, when potting a red into the corner, screws into another red and goes in-off in the middle pocket.

In what is becoming a pattern in this quarter-final, Kyren Wilson seizes on another opportunity given to him by his opponent, making a 79 break to go 4-2 in front.

  8. Brecel closes gap to one framepublished at 20:44 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January

    Kyren Wilson 3-2 Luca Brecel

Luca Brecel returns from the mid-session interval in style with a break of 84 to win a fifth frame that absolutely flew by.

When Brecel is in form and in full flow around the table, he certainly does not hang around.

Sixteen points ahead in frame four, Luca Brecel tries to thread the black through a tight gap between two reds into the corner pocket - but he finds the near jaw and it stays up.

The blue and black are quickly out of commission in Kyren Wilson's break, but combinations of red and pink do the job just fine.

A break of 64 is enough to give Wilson a 3-1 lead at the mid-session interval.

  10. Brecel off the markpublished at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January

    Kyren Wilson 2-1 Luca Brecel

Kyren Wilson misjudges an escape from a snooker and gives Luca Brecel a fairly easy starter.

It isn't always plain sailing but Brecel finds a couple of excellent recovery pots when required and he gets a frame on a scoreboard thanks to a break of 96.

    Kyren Wilson 2-0 Luca Brecel

    John Parrott

Kyren is doing what you'd expect him to do - he's taking what's there.

He's coming along and picking up the pieces from what's left behind and you feel as if it's that type of match.

If Luca gets in, he's got to score enough points to win the frame, because if he leaves any chances, Kyren is too steady.

  12. Clinical Wilson doubles leadpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January

    Kyren Wilson 0-0 Luca Brecel

Luca Brecel has had a couple of chances to score in the first frame and has opened up a 37-point lead with seven reds left on the table.

John Parrott mentioned before play that Kyren Wilson had been struggling with a sore ankle for most of the day but it doesn't seem to be affecting his movement around the table too much.

I was very encouraged [by Luca Brecel] the other day, not only by the shots that he played, but the fact that he came into the studio afterwards and he looks like he's got his enthusiasm back.

He said he was practising and putting in the hours, and he's one of the best and most exciting players on our circuit.

    I love watching him play.

Luca Brecel won the World Championship in 2023 but since then he has struggled to regularly hit the heights that took him to the world title at the Crucible Theatre.

There were signs in his quarter-final win over Chris Wakelin that the Belgian was back in form, such as this sensational pot on the brown to take the opening frame.

World number one Judd Trump won five successive frames after the interval to beat China's Ding Junhui 6-3 in their Masters quarter-final at Alexandra Palace.

By reaching the last four at Alexandra Palace, Trump surged past Ronnie O'Sullivan's record for the most prize money earned in a season, with his earnings for 2024-25 approaching £1.3m.

The 35-year-old set the new mark in typically impressive style.

A flurry of brilliant break-building from the Englishman meant Ding, who had opened a 3-1 lead, only managed 39 more points in the rest of the match.

The key moment came in the sixth frame when Ding, leading 3-2, did all the hard work to create a frame-winning opportunity but missed an easy red with the rest to the corner pocket.

Trump capitalised to level the match and surged clear to set up a semi-final against either Kyren Wilson or Luca Brecel on Saturday.

Reigning world champion Wilson and 2023 Crucible winner Brecel meet in the last quarter-final on Friday at 19:00 GMT.
