    Judd Trump 3-0 Barry Hawkins

    Shaun Murphy
2005 world champion on BBC Two

Judd is playing very tough "match snooker". It's not like he's popped in three centuries, he's just taking what's there and playing very conservatively.

He's doing a very professional job and to some degree that's all you can do. Sometimes you can be guilty of trying to make too much happen and trying to put on too much of a show, when really the priority is to win.

"Lady Luck" hasn't been on Barry's side so far in the match, there's still time for it to turn around but he'd want it to start soon.

  3. Trump extends leadpublished at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

    Judd Trump 3-0 Barry Hawkins

After a scrappy start to the third frame, Judd Trump makes a break of 59 to move into a 3-0 lead.

The two-time champion is halfway to the tally of six frames that he needs to book a spot in the quarter-finals.

The winner of this match will face Ding Junhui in the last eight.

    Judd Trump 2-0 Barry Hawkins

A couple of decent contributions from Judd Trump help the world number one into a 2-0 lead.

There are some great match-ups all through the week but this one popped its head up above the parapet.

When it [the draw] came out, it was the headline act, and the fact they were both playing in the UK final at the same time was quite ironic.

It's a proper match-up and, make no mistake, this is a toss of a coin [to find a winner].

The first of two last-16 matches at the Masters on Tuesday is a repeat of last month's UK Championship final in York.

On that occasion, world number one Judd Trump beat Barry Hawkins 10-8.

Trump won the Masters in 2019 and 2023, while Hawkins is twice a runner-up at this event.

It's the best of 11 frames, so the first man to reach six will take his place in the quarter-finals later this week.
