Judd Trump is the form man coming into the event, with the season that he's had. He's world number one, he's made 100 centuries. There's a lot of pressure riding on him.

There's also a lot of headlines about "only" winning one world title so there's that added pressure. And he's playing against a guy who has won it three times.

Both players were a little nervous but I think they've both settled down now and hopefully the breaks will start to flow.

  2. Trump moves ahead for first timepublished at 20:35 British Summer Time

    Trump 2-1 Williams (73-42)

Neither player has been anywhere near their best so far but Trump takes advantage of that missed double from Williams and the world number one does the rest with the colours up to the pink. He switches hands to try for the black, but doesn't get it.

    Trump 1-1 Williams

Trump makes 25, pots the green but then watches in agony as the cue ball drifts into the pocket too.

But once again Williams makes an instant error too. The double attempt stays out and a red is left on for Trump.

For Judd Trump supporters, this is slightly worrying.

Sometimes, because of the way he addresses the cue ball, if his timing is not quite right, he doesn't quite get back to the middle of the cue ball because he sort of addresses it on one side.

The timing not spot on so far, it appears.

  5. Postpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time

    Trump 1-1 Williams

Trump makes the fine long red, then misses a black off its spot and that kind of sums up his match so far.

But it is not costly as Williams too misses a red. Twitchy.

  6. Postpublished at 20:25 British Summer Time

    Trump 1-1 Williams

Williams gets to 38 points but tries to clip a red free from the pack, but is unable to do so and leaves the safety attempt short to hand Trump a tempting long red.

  7. Postpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time

    Trump 1-1 Williams

Trump, the world number one, with a bad miss early on in frame three and Williams could quickly restore his lead here.

  8. 'Play on his terms'published at 20:21 British Summer Time

    Trump 1-1 Williams

    Ken Doherty

I think Mark's philosophy now is that he's going to be the aggressor, he's not going to try to win in bits and pieces, he wants to play his game on his terms.

  9. Trump makes it 1-1published at 20:18 British Summer Time

    Trump 1-1 Williams (72-31)

A draining, not too-enjoyable 40-minute frame of snooker, but it goes Trump's way. We've had over an hour of play and just had two frames. But it's 1-1.

    Trump 0-1 Williams

But now Williams misses a red he'd normally make. This could be 1-1.

A chance for Williams now at 60-26 down. He's had to be really patient, and now he could get his reward.

  12. Postpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time

    Trump 0-1 Williams

After some gruelling safety exchanges, Trump gets things going again with a lovely swerving shot to pot a long red. But there's work to do to seal the frame.

  13. Postpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time

    Trump 0-1 Williams

Mark Williams sticks the cue ball tight behind the brown and Trump does not get the two-cushion escape correct, costing him eight points. The frames flew by in the first semi-final earlier on, with Ronnie O'Sullivan level at 4-4 against Zhao Xintong.

This one is more for the snooker purists at the moment.

  14. What's the World Championship prize money?published at 20:02 British Summer Time

The World Championship is described as a 17-day snooker marathon - but the reward is there for the player who completes it...

It's early days in this match. The winning line is a long way away. It's just that little bit of positioning yourself at the end of this first session.

It's four sessions - the first three are eight frames and the remaining nine if required to make up the 33.

  16. Postpublished at 19:58 British Summer Time

    Trump 0-1 Williams

Mark Williams misses a pot on the yellow and then goes in-off too. Trump 47-14 ahead.

  17. Postpublished at 19:56 British Summer Time

    Trump 0-1 Williams

A bit of tippy-tappy stuff into the pack of reds. Williams gets his effort wrong and a double hit costs him four points. It's touching ball for Trump so he tries to play safe and has a panic when referee Rob Spencer calls for a foul on the pink, only to instantly realise he's made a mistake and tells Trump that.

  18. Postpublished at 19:53 British Summer Time

    Trump 0-1 Williams

An "ooh" from the crowd as Trump tries to thin cut a red into the top-right pocket, but it stays out. There's nothing on for Williams though at 9-39 down.

    Trump 0-1 Williams

Judd Trump, aiming for a slight contact on a full-table red, fouls twice and, because he could see both sides of the target ball, is warned that one more of them and he will lose the frame on the three-miss rule.

He changes his approach for the third go and hits it, although that passage of play cost him eight points.

  20. Postpublished at 19:43 British Summer Time

    Trump 0-1 Williams

Trump can only get to 16 though after having no luck when going into the pack of reds and safety is his best option.
