World champion Kyren Wilson gets off to a good start against former UK champion Stephen Maguire.

Wilson built himself a 67-0 lead, Maguire came to the table with only 67 points remaining and looking to force a respotted black, but it didn't go that far. Maguire chipped 32 off the total, but a missed red leaves Wilson with a chance and he did the rest.

We've already had the first, fifth, 13th and 16th seeds go out inside the opening two days and it is a bad start for 15th seed Chris Wakelin, as he loses the opening frame against world number 35 Matthew Selt.

We've had eight matches so far at the 2024 UK Championship in York and six of them have ended 6-4, with the other two finishing 6-5 after deciding-frame drama.

Will any of the players today be able to make a statement and gain a convincing win, or will it be more hard-fought tight and tense encounters?

One of the many benefits of being a world champion is a raised profile and you get to see yourself used more and more on the event promotions.

You don't have to look too hard to find Kyren Wilson's name and picture around the York Barbican, and rightly so.

What a performance it was from him in April and May as he became the world champion. Seeded 12th, he defeated Dominic Dale, Joe O'Connor, John Higgins, David Gilbert and Jak Jones to become world champion.

Since then Wilson claimed his seventh ranking title by winning the World Open, defeating Ronnie O'Sullivan in the semi-finals and Judd Trump in the final. Ranking title number eight was not far away either and that came with victory at last month's Northern Ireland Open, again beating Trump in the final.

But Wilson faces a tough task here today against 2004 UK champion Stephen Maguire.

Hello and welcome to day three of the UK Championship from York Barbican.

We've already seen reigning champion Ronnie O'Sullivan lose on Saturday and two-time champion Mark Selby be eliminated on Sunday.

Now it's the turn of the current world champion, Kyren Wilson, to try to avoid being on the end of a loss. He's already won one of snooker's Triple Crown events, can this be the start of a run towards a second?

    Let's find out.

Two-time UK Championship winner Mark Selby lost in the first round of the 2024 event as fellow Englishman Jack Lisowski produced a superb fightback at the York Barbican on Sunday evening.

Lisowski, 21st in the world rankings, was 3-0 behind and had only scored six points as Selby dominated the early stages with two stunning centuries.

But Lisowski got back into the match and, aided by breaks of 55, 63, 100, 70 and 61, won six of the next seven frames to take the victory 6-4 and set up a last-16 tie with Ali Carter.

A shock did not look on the cards when Selby scored 329 points in the opening three frames, with Lisowski, who battled through two qualifying rounds, only potting a red and a blue.

However, Selby felt a failure to go 4-0 in front proved critical.

"I played well to go 3-0 then I misjudged a red in the next frame and that was probably the turning point of the match," said Selby.

"If I had gone 4-0 I would've broken the back of the match, but Jack played well and I know he is capable of that. When his mind is right, he is capable of beating anyone.

"I feel my game is OK and I'm losing to great players."
