Guernsey squash star Chris Simpson failed to make it through the first round of Torneo Sporta PSA tournament in Guatemala.

Simpson, who was seeded third for the event, lost 3-1 against unseeded Mexican Eric Galvez.

Simpson told BBC Guernsey: "It's 1850m altitude here and I just couldn't get any oxygen into my lungs.

"The Mexicans, who all live in Mexico city which is higher than here, all seem to be beating everyone else."

He continued: "I've been a bit disappointed with my run of form in tournaments in the last couple of months.

"But I have been feeling good in training, which is a bit strange."

Simpson who is ranked number 48 in the world, is not part of Guernsey's team, external for next month's Island Games, owing to other commitments.
