Jersey's Nick Taylor has won gold in the squash at the Island Games in the Isle of Wight.

He beat the Isle of Wight's Alex Phillips 3-0 in the final on the same night Taylor's wife Sarah won silver.

She lost by the same score line in the women's event to Caroline Heal from the Cayman Islands.

Meanwhile, Jersey's Michael Hopkins claimed the men's bronze medal and earlier in the week Jersey won gold in the team competition.

Speaking after winning his gold in the singles, Nick Taylor said: "It was a little bit edgy towards the end.

"I could see the winning post and I just went really stiff in the arm.

"I'm delighted to win the gold. I've beaten him [Phillips] three times this week and it's got harder.

"I'm really proud of Sarah - the week she's had has been incredible."

The husband and wife team will play in the mixed doubles on Friday.

Sarah told BBC Radio Jersey: "I was expecting really to just come here and play well.

"I've been struggling with an injury so going into it I wasn't really expecting much."

The success for Jersey at the Westridge Squash Club has helped the island climb to third place in the overall Island Games medal table.

Guernsey are still top with 25 golds in the opening four days of competition in the Isle of Wight.
