Nick Matthew has beaten fellow British player James Willstrop to reach the US Open final in Philadelphia.

The 33-year-old from Sheffield won 11-3 11-6 11-5 to extend his unbeaten tour run against world number three Willstrop to 16 matches.

Matthew, the 2007 champion, will face top-seeded Gregory Gaultier in Friday's final after the Frenchman defeated Egypt's Karim Darwish 11-7 11-4 12-10.

Britain's Laura Massaro will face Nicol David in the women's final.

Great Yarmouth-born world number two Massaro beat Malaysia's Low Wee Wern 11-6 9-11 11-6 9-11 11-7 in a thriller.

It is the second time in three years the 29-year-old has reached the US Open final.

"It's great to be back in the final in a big event like this," said Massaro.

Meanwhile Matthew, who won the US Open six years ago, external after beating Leeds-born Willstrop in the final, is hoping for more silverware.

The British champion said: "I'll need to be fresh as possible for the final. I'm not putting any pressure on myself.

"He's (Gaultier) played 75 matches this season and I've played four, so he's much more match sharp than I am. I'll just go out to express myself and enjoy it, and if I happen to win that would be great."
