Squash: England women win European team title

England's women won the European team title for the fifth time in succession

England's women beat France 2-1 to win their 37th European Squash Team Championships title in Denmark.

Emma Beddoes sealed victory with an 11-5 11-5 11-4 win over Laura Pomportes in Herning.

Sarah-Jane Perry had got England off to a good start with an 11-4 11-6 2-11 11-6 victory over Coline Aumard, before Alison Waters went down 11-7 11-4 9-11 11-5 to Camille Serme.

France beat England to become the men's champions for the first time.

Gregory Gaultier beat Peter Barker and Mathieu Castagnet saw off Daryl Selby to put France 2-0 up, but James Willstrop kept English hopes alive with a five-game win over Gregoire Marche.

It left France requiring just one game from the final tie and, when Lucas Serme made it 1-1 against Chris Simpson, the French had beaten England for the first time in 16 final meetings.

England's women were missing world number four Laura Massaro, who is taking a break from competitive squash, but they still took the title for the fifth time in a row.
