Olympic champion Daniel Wiffen will not compete in the World Short-Course Championships in Budapest.
The 23-year-old swimmer will not travel to Hungary with the rest of team Ireland next month.
It has been a busy year for the County Armagh swimmer, who won gold in the 800m freestyle and bronze in the 1500m freestyle at the Paris Games in the summer.
Speaking to Swimming World, external, Wiffen said he made the decision following a discussion with Swim Ireland performance director Jon Rudd.
He also won two gold medals at the World Aquatic Championships in Doha in February.
Wiffen, a three-time European Short Course champion, has yet to win a medal at the world short course event.
