French Open 2012: Liam Broady & Kyle Edmund post wins

Britain's Liam Broady advanced to round two of the French Open boys' singles with victory over Egypt's Karim Hossam.

The 18-year-old from Stockport, 2011 Wimbledon boys' singles runner-up and 2012 Australian Open boys' doubles champion, won 6-4 7-5.

Third seed Broady will next play Julien Cagnina of Belgium, while Kyle Edmund beat Maxime Tchoutakian of France 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 to reach the third round.

Luke Bambridge lost 6-0 6-4 to Australian top seed Luke Saville.

"I played really well," said Broady. "I had a very specific gameplan and executed it.

"At the moment I'm trying to get out of the Futures [the level below Challenger events], but the transition to the senior game is very hard. The game is much more serve-orientated.

"I'm trying to bulk up. I've done a month of fitness training and feel like it's paying off.

"The British people are overdue a good generation of British players and hopefully it's going to come. I don't see why me, Luke Bambridge, Kyle Edmund and Josh Ward-Hibbert can't all make it."
