World number five David Ferrer warmed up for the Australian Open by winning a record-equalling fourth Auckland Open.

The Spaniard beat Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 to match the four Auckland wins of Australian Roy Emerson.

Ferrer is seeded four in Melbourne and will play Olivier Rochus in round one.

Elsewhere, Leyton Hewitt beat Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets to win the Kooyong Classic exhibition tournament.

The Australian former world number one breezed past the Argentine world number seven 6-1 6-4.

It was Hewitt's third win over players from the world's top 15 in Melbourne, having beaten Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic en route to the final.

Hewitt, now ranked 82, will play Serbian eighth seed Janko Tipsarevic in the first round of the Australian Open.
