Davis Cup 2013: Great Britain could face Spain or Switzerland

Great Britain could face a Spain side featuring Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer's Switzerland in their next Davis Cup tie in September.

Leon Smith's side fought back to earn a stunning 3-2 win over Russia on Sunday and set up a World Group play-off.

The draw takes place at 11:00 BST on Wednesday, with the ties to be played on 13-15 September.

Great Britain's possible opponents are Spain, Austria, Croatia, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Belgium or Japan.

Andy Murray chose to miss the tie against Russia as he prepares for the clay-court season, but the world number two has already made it clear he will be available in September.

In his absence, James Ward and Dan Evans both won their singles rubbers on the final day at Coventry's Ricoh Arena after Colin Fleming and Jonny Marray had won the doubles on Saturday.

"I think it's outstanding and it's one of the best things I've seen in my time in British tennis," said GB Davis Cup team captain Smith.

"We said at the start of the week, and I wasn't joking, I genuinely thought we could cause an upset. It's not just being an eternal optimist, it was possible."

The venue for September's tie will depend on the draw, and where the tie was hosted the last time the two nations met.

Britain last played Spain on home ground, winning 4-1 in Telford in 1986, and so would face an away tie were they to be drawn together this time.

However, should Smith's team take on Switzerland it will be at home, following their 5-0 defeat in Geneva in 2005.
