Elena Vesnina beats Jamie Hampton in Eastbourne final

Elena Vesnina and Feliciano Lopez won the singles titles at the Aegon International in Eastbourne.

On a windy day that made playing conditions difficult, Russia's Vesnina, 26, beat 23-year-old Jamie Hampton of the United States 6-2 6-1 in 73 minutes to claim her second career title.

Spaniard Lopez, 31, then beat France's second seed Gilles Simon 7-6 (7-2) 6-7 (5-7) 6-0 in the men's final.

The pair will meet again in the Wimbledon first round next week.

"It's definitely a good feeling to win the week before Wimbledon," said Lopez, who served 16 aces to his 28-year-old opponent's four to seal the third title of his career.

"Conditions were so tough but we did our best. Hopefully at Wimbledon we can play a better match."

After losing her first six finals, Vesnina claimed her maiden title in Hobart the week before the Australian Open in January.

She will move up to 22nd in the world, with American Hampton rising to a career-best 25th.

"It's a big honour to win here," said Vesnina. "I'm very happy right now.

"My life has changed a bit this season, I'm happy on and off the court. I'm playing well and feeling so good, it's amazing."

Qualifier Hampton was bidding to become the first American to win at Eastbourne since Chanda Rubin in 2003 after knocking out world number four Agnieszka Radwanska and ninth-ranked Caroline Wozniacki.

She said: "I was so honoured to be here, it's been an unforgettable week for me.

"The wind was tough, but it is what it is. It was the same for both of us, but she handled the conditions much better than I did. She really deserves the title."
