Britain's Andy Murray has been seeded eighth for the 2014 US Open, which starts at Flushing Meadows on Monday.

The 27-year-old, who won the tournament in 2012, has not won an ATP ranking event since Wimbledon in 2013.

Britons Daniel Cox and Naomi Broady will not be joining Murray in the main draw after losing their first-round qualifiers in straight sets.

Cox, 23, was on court for just 69 minutes as he suffered a 6-3 6-3 defeat by Serbia's Filip Krajinovic.

Broady, 24, who was part of the qualifying draw for a third consecutive year, lost 7-5 (8-6) 7-6 (7-2) to American Tornado Alicia Black in two hours and 16 minutes.

Britons James Ward, Daniel Evans and Daniel Smethurst play their first-round qualifiers in New York on Wednesday.

The seedings for the women's tournament will be announced on Wednesday, with the draw taking place the following day.
