Davis Cup: Glasgow Arena set to host GB v USA tie in March

Britain's 3-1 win over the United States in February was played on an outdoor clay court in San Diego

Glasgow's Emirates Arena will stage Great Britain's Davis Cup first-round tie with the United States in March.

Andy Murray is expected to feature in the team, captained by fellow Scot Leon Smith, as Britain attempt to reach the last eight for the second year running.

Britain beat the US 3-1 in the first round of this year's Davis Cup, before losing 3-2 to Italy.

"I'm really excited about coming to Glasgow to play in a World Group tie," said Murray.

"It's going to be a huge week for our team and I'm looking forward to be able to play in front a home crowd.

"I did play Davis Cup in Glasgow a few years ago where we received incredible support, but this is a World Group tie so it's a massive deal."

The tie will take place from 6-8 March with the winners going on to face either France or Germany in the quarter-finals.

Opened in 2012, the Emirates Arena was used for Commonwealth Games badminton this year and hosts Glasgow Rocks basketball games, with a capacity of up to 7,000.

The last time the Davis Cup came to Scotland was in April 2012, when GB, without Murray, lost 4-1 to Belgium at the Braehead Arena, also in Glasgow.

Braehead also hosted Davis Cup ties in 2011, 2009 and 2006.
