Heather Watson has been knocked out of the Italian Open, losing 6-1 6-1 to Carla Suarez Navarro in round two.

The British number one, 22, was broken three times in the first set in Rome by the Spanish 10th seed.

Watson squandered two break points in the third game of the second set and the ground strokes of Suarez Navarro proved too much.

"I was very inconsistent, making a lot of unforced errors. I felt very sluggish and slow," she said.

"Even with all the errors, I still created a lot of opportunities for myself - a lot of game points - but I wasn't able to take many of them at all."
