Britain's Kyle Edmund and Johanna Konta will make their French Open debuts after securing qualifying victories.

Edmund beat Spain's Adrian Menendez-Maceiras 6-1 6-4 in the final round of qualifying at Roland Garros.

The 20-year-old from Yorkshire, ranked 121st, also made it through qualifying at the Australian Open in January.

British women's number two Konta, 24, joined Heather Watson in the main draw by beating French world number 315 Clothilde de Bernardi 6-2 6-1.

Australian-born Konta raced into a 4-0 lead and also dominated the second set after breaking in the opening game.

The world number 144, who last qualified for a Grand Slam at the US Open in 2012, will play world number 86 Denisa Allertova of the Czech Republic in the opening round.

"There has been a lot of hurdles but I believe the experiences shape you," Konta told BBC Sport.

Edmund joins Andy Murray and Slovenian-born Aljaz Bedene, who gained UK citizenship in March, in the main draw.

He will play 35-year-old Frenchman Stephane Robert, who has dropped to 550 in the world after an injury-hit year.

It was another assured display from Edmund, who broke the 29-year-old 12th seed's serve four times on Court 17.

The Briton flinched when trying to close out the match, dropping serve for the first time, but converted his second opportunity to beat the world number 113 in 62 minutes.

"That's twice now this year I've qualified for a Grand Slam and that's going to help me," Edmund told BBC Sport. "I'll learn from my first round match in Australia against Steve Johnson, how I felt going out on court, and what I could have done better."
