Qualifier Dustin Brown was unable to follow his surprise win against Rafael Nadal as his exciting Wimbledon campaign ended in the third round.
The German, ranked 102 in the world, lost 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 6-3 against Serbia's 22 seed Viktor Troicki, 29.
Spectators and media queued to secure a seat on a busy court three, keen to watch the dreadlocked 30-year-old.
Brown entertained with some unorthodox shots, but could not match the superior quality of the former world number 12.
"Obviously having the pleasure and being able to play on Centre Court and to play a match like that against Nadal, it doesn't make a difference if I lost today or not.
"No-one will ever be able to take that away from me," said Brown.
Brown has attracted plenty of attention since his victory against two-time Wimbledon champion Nadal on Thursday.
And his flamboyant appearance, on-court antics and entertaining array of shots have captured the imagination of Wimbledon fans.
So has his back story of being a journeyman tennis player, who travelled around Europe in a camper van during the early stages of his career, before making international headlines this week.
However, the floaty drop volleys and clinical baseline winners were not executed with enough regularity to seriously threaten Troicki.
Both men struggled to convert break points in the opening set, Troicki eventually making one count in the final game of the opener.
Each improved their service games in the next, leading to a tie-break which the Serb won.
Brown got a set back, giving hope to his vast vocal support, only to see Troicki's greater experience tell in the fourth.
"Basically, besides one or two service games in the whole match, there weren't many games where I had chances," Brown said.
Troicki, who beat Britain's Aljaz Bedene in the last round, is working his way back up the world rankings.
Now he will face Canada's Vasek Pospisil in the fourth round after the world number 56 beat Britain's James Ward in five sets.
