James Ward into world's top 100 players for first time

James Ward beat Luca Vanni and Jiri Vesely to reach the third round of Wimbledon

Britain's James Ward has broken into the world's top 100 for the first time after reaching the third round of this year's Wimbledon.

The 28-year-old is now 89th in the ATP rankings, an improvement of 22 places.

Along with Andy Murray, wildcard Ward was one of two Britons who reached the third round of Wimbledon - the first time this has happened since 2002.

He was beaten 6-4 3-6 2-6 6-3 8-6 in a five-set thriller by Canadian Vasek Pospisil.

However, in achieving his best performance in the tournament he picked up £77,000, which represents the biggest payday of his career.

Britain has two players higher than Ward in the world rankings - Murray, who reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon, is third and Aljaz Bedene, who was eliminated in round two at SW19, is 70th.

Jamie Murray, who reached the men's doubles final at Wimbledon, has moved up eight places in the doubles rankings to 20th and Heather Watson eight places to 51st in the WTA singles rankings after reaching the third round.
