I really feel the Australians have to start being more aggressive. Hanging back on the basline is not going to get the job done for them.

We've seen a few heavy forehands from Henry Patten. He's obviously fully relaxed and able to pick his shots.

  8. Purcell/Thompson holdpublished at 19:08 British Summer Time 13 July

    Purcell/Thompson 7-6 (9-7) 6-7 (8-10) 3-3 Heliovaara/Patten*

Sorry British and Finnish fans, I really tried to jinx things with my last post but my magic hasn't come through yet and Max Purcell easily holds to 15.

Still, Henry Patten is playing some phonemical tennis, blasting over a crosscourt forehand return winner to collect his pair's only point.

Henry Patten could well be pushing for the Davis Cup team with how he's playing.

    *Purcell/Thompson 7-6 (9-7) 6-7 (8-10) 2-3 Heliovaara/Patten

Still no breaks of serve in this final. I reckon we won't see one at all to be honest.

Henry Patten holds to 15 in a game which has Harri Heliovaara pull off an agile volleyed winner at the net.

That's three net cords, including one in the second set tie-break at a crucial point of 5-5, that have gone the way of Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara.

This latest one, which whipped over the shoulder of Jordan Thompson, doesn't really matter though as the Aussies, as they have always done, hold their serve comfortably.

In a deciding set, yet Patten and Heliovaara are still yet to create a single break-point chance in a regular game.

  12. Purcell/Thompson holdpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 13 July

    Purcell/Thompson 7-6 (9-7) 6-7 (8-10) 2-2 Heliovaara/Patten*

Jordan Thompson holds to 15 with an ace.

There was a bit of a moment earlier when he got put off his serve by a butterfly but luckily a ball kid was on hand to run over and shoo it away.

Thompson can get a little emotional and that is when he can get a little bit tight. That is where his partner has to maintain a leadership role.

    Well said Todd.

And also yep Peter you're absolutely right. Heliovaara/Patten are riding their luck, with Henry Patten seeing his forehand clip the net but bounce in. 15-15.

    *Purcell/Thompson 7-6 (9-7) 6-7 (8-10) 1-2 Heliovaara/Patten

Harri Heliovaara produces an exceptional lob that lands slap bang on the middle of the baseline - we know because of a Hawkeye check - and then the Finn benefits from a dodgy net call on his way to a love-hold.

Exceptional tennis again from Briton Henry Patten who hits a fire crosscourt return.

But Max Purcell manages to hold to 30 after he pokes a forehand winner down the line.

It's a decent start for Patten and Heliovaara as the pair hold to 30. The two are back in the lead in the final.
