The one thing what Novak Djokovic hasn't tried out yet is moonballing Jannik Sinner.

That's a way of pushing him back behind the baseline.

That's the last resort for Djokovic.

    *Sinner 4-2 Djokovic

It was tough to pick the pair apart in the opening four games but Jannik Sinner is starting to swiftly move through the gears now.

Far from an ideal start from Novak Djokovic as he double faults.

Djokovic finally halts an eight-point winning streak to gain a foothold back in the game.

But the Serb is lacking conviction as his latest drop shot finds the net and Sinner has another chance to break.

The first decisive moment in this match and Jannik Sinner has the chance to open up a bit of daylight between the two.

He pulls 30-0 clear when another tricky bounce leaves Novak Djokovic only able to tee it up for Sinner, who emphatically smashes a winner into the corner.

Sinner thinks he has wrapped up the hold until Djokovic calls over the umpire to appeal the serve was long. The marking on the court backs up his argument.

But it's only a brief reprieve.

An awkward bounce off the unpredictable clay leaves Novak Djokovic unable to return.

It bounces up dramatically at neck level and Djokovic can't adjust his racquet in time.

    Jannik Sinner has the break.

Back to the action on the clay and it's really starting to come to life.

Novak Djokovic sends Jannik Sinner chasing to the baseline with a beautifully executed lob and the Italian returns to the net.

Sinner fights back, though, and has the first look at breaking in this set.

A 17-shot rally - the longest of the match so far - to get the game going and it's Novak Djokovic who stays the distance.

Djokovic continues to utilise the drop shot but this time he's short and Jannik Sinner closes in on another hold.

A scuffed backhand goes wide and we stay on serve.

In his quarter-final win over Alexander Zverev, we saw Djokovic regularly - and successfully - employ the drop shot.

It's a tactic which he's already using tonight.

The problem is Sinner has greater fleet of foot to get there.

Nevertheless, mixing things up will keep Sinner guessing.

Novak Djokovic and I are the same age. I'm up here and he's down there!

That's the difference between our upbringing and him taking care of his body.

It was clear after the first point that he knows what he wants to do. He is timing it very well.

    *Sinner 1-2 Djokovic

Novak Djokovic is already leaning heavily on his drop shots. Jannik Sinner uses his long legs to race to the net to return with one of his own but Djokovic slams a winner down the line.

Those long arms of Sinner really do allow him to generate some power but Djokovic is the equal to it and grinds the Italian down to move within a point of holding.

Sinner slices beautifully to reduce the deficit but Djokovic sees it through on the next point.
