  3. Kasatkina breakspublished at 15:55 British Summer Time

    Kartal 6-1 3-5 Kasatkina*

A first real tight spot for Sonay Kartal to try and work her way out of here. The Briton frames a shot out of the court to hand over three break points...

That's into the net, though, and that first blip from Kartal gifts Daria Kasatkina the chance to serve for the set. How quickly the momentum can swing.

  4. Kasatkina holds servepublished at 15:52 British Summer Time

    *Kartal 6-1 3-4 Kasatkina

It's a much more level contest now and Daria Kasatkina has cut out the unforced errors - especially on serve - to give herself a platform here. The world number 16 boxes off another game from 30-30 to edge back in front.

  5. Kartal holds servepublished at 15:51 British Summer Time

    Kartal 6-1 3-3 Kasatkina*

Sonay Kartal keeps herself on course for victory with another hold. She's been rock solid so far and, if she can keep this up, is on track for a huge win.

But, if yesterday taught us anything... Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves yet.

  6. Kasatkina holds servepublished at 15:44 British Summer Time

    *Kartal 6-1 2-3 Kasatkina

Sonay Kartal punishes a serve with a devastating return, but can't apply any further pressure in Daria Kasatkina's latest game. A comfortable hold for the improving Australian as she searches for a way back into the match.

  7. Kartal saves break pointpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time

    Kartal 6-1 2-2 Kasatkina*

Signs now that Daria Kasatkina has, after a slow start, begun to find her range.

The Australian produces a fine winner to set up her first break point of the set but is then left frustrated as, in her attempt to seal the deal, she sees a shot catch the net cord and bounce out.

It's all the encouragement that Sonay Kartal needs. The Brit escapes to restore parity at two games apiece.

Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu look to be cruising to victory here in their debut match as a doubles partnership, a set and a break up.

It’s been pretty comfortable for the British pair.

I’m close enough to the court that I could offer coaching tips but based on this, they don’t need them.

Not that they would ever need them from me but you get the idea.

  13. On serve in second setpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time

    Kartal 6-1 1-1 Kasatkina*

A much better start for Daria Kasatkina to set two. The Australian holds serve to 15 to get up and running after struggling to get going here.

But Sonay Kartal responds by out-doing the world number 16, holding to love to draw level.

  14. Game and first set - Kartalpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time

    Kartal 6-1 0-0 Kasatkina*

Well, that was incredibly comfortable for Sonay Kartal.

The British number three takes just half an hour to take the opening set.

That's a super impressive start but she'll expect some kind of response from Daria Kasatkina, who is a top-20 player for a reason.

    Raducanu and Boulter

It’s pretty intimate down here at Court 1 with the fan and media seats practically on top of the court.

It means we’re getting to see a lot of interaction between the players.

Emma Raducanu has just had a little giggle as she went to fill up her water bottle at the dispenser while we’re also getting a little insight into the pair’s tactics.

They're not the only Brits enjoying their opening day at Queen's, either.

Sonay Kartal is storming to the opening set on Andy Murray Arena.

She reaches 30-30 on Daria Kasatkina's serve to stand two points away from completing a 6-0 demolition job - but Kasatkina manages to get over the line for a first time from there.

There’s a lot of laughing and chatting happening during the changes of end here on Court 1 between Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu as they moved a break up and served for set one.

There’s clearly a nice friendship here and the pair are enjoying themselves.

Laughing and high-fiving between points and encouraging each other after misses…

Boulter has needed a bit of that encouragement as she double faults twice in her service game.

But there’s a big cheer from Raducanu and the crowd as she holds her nerve to take the set.

    *Kartal 4-0 Kasatkina

No early nerves whatsoever here for Sonay Kartal.
