    *Sinner 6-3 6-2 3-0 De Minaur

    Very, very quickly.

Near silence at Rod Laver Arena as an increasingly frustrated and resigned Alex de Minaur is broken again.

The Australian starts the game well again, is up 30-0 but is unable to see it through.

Jannik Sinner is three games away from an 11th straight victory over De Minaur, who has still only won one set against him in those matches.

  2. Sinner holds to lovepublished at 10:57 Greenwich Mean Time

    Sinner 6-3 6-2 2-0 De Minaur*

This one could be over quickly at this rate.

There is no let up from Jannik Sinner and Alex de Minaur looks out of ideas.

A very comfortable hold for the two-time Grand Slam champion.

I feel like Alex de Minaur is looking a little dejected and unsure tactically what to do, I'm sure he knows that he needs to come into the net.

  4. Sinner breakspublished at 10:55 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Sinner 6-3 6-2 1-0 De Minaur

That is a tough one to take for Alex de Minaur.

It looked like being a comfortable hold as he went up 40-15 but it all fell apart from there.

The moment Jannik Sinner got it to 40-30, the Australian looked full of doubt.

Four points on the spin for Sinner to break in the first of the third set, just as he did in the second.

I've played tennis since I was about 3 years old and you absolutely know if the ball has bounced twice or not - Swiatek should have conceded the point...

On the double-bounce controversy during Iga Swiatek's match against Emma Navarro.

I'm always one for the truth and if the truth was that the ball double-bounced, it's not Emma Navarro's fault if in the heat in the moment and the point carried on, it's quite a tough one and it's not very often that it happens.

I feel you yourself as a player know when it's double-bounced.

  8. Game and second set - Sinnerpublished at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time

    Sinner 6-3 6-2 De Minaur*

Nothing more than a murmur from a despondent crowd on Rod Laver Arena as Jannik Sinner wraps up the second set.

The defending champion starts the game by nailing an overhead volley and a thumping serve down the middle finishes it off.

Alex de Minaur needs an almighty comeback with Sinner dominant and just a set away from the semis.

  9. Sinner to serve for the second setpublished at 10:44 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Sinner 6-3 5-2 De Minaur

Jannik Sinner will serve for the second set.

The Italian went up 0-15 but, as much as he has been second best so far, Alex de Minaur is not going to make this easy for Sinner.

There is no thought of conserving energy for the next set, he is still battling in this one and holds to 15.

It's frustrating for the Australian [Alex De Minaur] in rally mode if he's trying to slow any of the rallies down, he's made to be punished immediately.

  11. Sinner holds to lovepublished at 10:42 Greenwich Mean Time

    Sinner 6-3 5-1 De Minaur*

Jannik Sinner does what he has to do and with minimum fuss.

A superb forehand winner into the corner gets him going in the game and Alex de Minaur proceeds to find the net on the next three points.

The Australian will now serve to stay in the second set.

It's interesting how many times Jannik Sinner is going down the middle of the court, he is repositioning and neutralising the balls quite often down the centre and then eventually going deeper into that forehand corner.

  13. Sinner breaks againpublished at 10:36 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Sinner 6-3 4-1 De Minaur

    Oh dear.

Alex de Minaur advances and has half the court to aim at to go up 40-30 but gets the timing all wrong and the backhand goes well wide.

The first break point for Jannik Sinner is saved but a wayward forehand from De Minaur offers him another.

The home favourite is not happy but keeps fighting to stave off another break point.

He just can't put Sinner away, though. The Italian is defending solidly and as soon as the opportunity presents itself, puts the pressure on his opponent.

At the third time of asking, he secures the double break with fierce forehand winner.

Jannik Sinner really sets the pace of the match, it's just relentless and everything just comes to Alex De Minaur thick and fast and you've got to react so quickly.

  15. Sinner holdspublished at 10:29 Greenwich Mean Time

    Sinner 6-3 3-1 De Minaur*

Jannik Sinner is doing a brilliant job of quietening the crowd so far.

They are desperate to get behind Alex de Minaur and when the Australian wins the first point on the Sinner serve, they roar their approval.

No issue for the world number one, though. He rattles through the next few points in commanding fashion to hold to 15.

  16. 'De Minaur stood up to the test'published at 10:27 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Sinner 6-3 2-1 De Minaur

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

That was an exceptional point from Alex De Minaur, he stood up to the test there, he's not going to be bossed around too much. He really unleased with a bit more potency behind that forehand and it payed off. He's got to keep doing it and keep building those points to create that pressure on the other end.

    Mark Woodforde

I felt at the end of the previous game that Alex De Minaur tried to move his position back but the dangerous thing if he does take two steps back away from the baseline, Jannik Sinner as he did throws in that drop shot, he just sees De Minaur's court position.

  18. De Minaur holdspublished at 10:24 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Sinner 6-3 2-1 De Minaur

Alex de Minaur is on the board in this second set.

There was a bit of a wobble as Jannik Sinner got it to 30-30 but De Minaur digs in.

The eighth seed remains a break down but, in keeping it to a single break, retains hope in the set.

  19. Sinner saves break point to holdpublished at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time

    Sinner 6-3 2-0 De Minaur*

It has been slightly subdued to this point but Rod Laver Arena is up as Alex de Minaur earns his first break point of the match.

The home favourite can't take it though, going long with a forehand return, and then puts Jannik Sinner's big serve out wide into the net.

Sinner makes no mistake from there. A lovely, well disguised drop shot secures the hold.

The last thing Alex de Minaur wants is for this crowd to become flat because that also puts enormous pressure on him if he feels like he's not entertaining them.
