Always was (and will be!) a huge Roger fan, and I still twitch a little when I think back to Wimbledon 2019!… But I’ve never agreed with the disrespect Djokovic often seems to be subject to. He’s an unbelievable player and competitor. The last one of the "big three" to be playing Grand Slams, and still at a phenomenal level. Ridiculous stuff today.

    Djokovic 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 Alcaraz

On setting up a semi-final against Alexander Zverev on Friday, Djokovic said: "God knows when I'm going to go to sleep! I guess the key is recovery for me now. To be honest, that is all I'm thinking about. The extra day without a match comes at the perfect time for me.

"Let's see if it's going to be good enough on Friday. Hopefully I can come out and feel my best because Sascha is playing some of the best tennis he has ever played. We have an agreement that as long as I'm playing, he has to let me win Grand Slam matches!"

  7. 'I just had to go for my shots more'published at 14:23 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Djokovic 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 Alcaraz

On having to play the long game against Carlos Alcaraz: "I'm surprised that my kids are still here! I love you and thank you for supporting me, but it is 1am. When are you going to sleep tonight? They don't want me to speak about them. Fine, let's get back to tennis!

"Back in 2023, I actually had a similar injury and I carried it basically from the beginning of the tournament. I just had to go for my shots more. Honestly, sometimes it helps and I felt it definitely helped in the second and third sets here.

"We are so nervous on the court. There is a lot happening and you are going through emotional turmoil, so any point can really shift the momentum to the other side, particularly when you play against a champion like Carlos. He brings the energy and competitive spirit to the court, so I have to come out and be at my best. I knew that.

"In that perspective, I think it does help mentally because all of a sudden you just start to play a bit more aggressively and you play through your shots more. I guess that's going to be necessary for me when I face Sascha Zverev in the semi-finals."

  8. 'My utmost respect and admiration for Carlos'published at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Djokovic 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 Alcaraz

Novak Djokovic after working through injury to seal his semi-final spot: "Well, I guess I did it with my two legs and two arms! I had one and a half legs actually. I want to say my utmost respect and admiration for Carlos, everything he stands for and what he has already achieved in his young career. What a terrific guy he is and an even better competitor. He is the youngest ever number one in the history of our sport, four Grand Slams, so I'm sure we are going to see a lot of him. Maybe not as much as I would like, but he is going to be there longer than me for sure. I just wish this match today was the final.

"I don't know if Sascha Zverev is still awake at 1am watching this, I'm sure his team is. That was just one of the most epic matches I have played on this court, on any court really! Thank you all so much for staying until 1am to watch and support us."

  9. 'The medication kicked in and helped'published at 14:15 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Djokovic 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 Alcaraz

On needing to take a medical timeout during the match, Djokovic said: "Since I'm still in the tournament, I obviously don't want to reveal too much. The medication started to kick in and it helped, no doubt about it. I had to take another dose - I mean this sounds awful that I had to take another one - but I had to.

"If I had lost that second set, I don't know if I would have continued playing but I felt better and better. I managed to play a great couple of games to close out the second set and then I saw Carlos was hesitant from the back of the court and I took my chances. Then I started to feel better, started to move better and it didn't bother me or create any hinderance at the end of the match.

"When the medication starts to wear off, I will see what the reality is tomorrow morning. Right now, I will just try to be in the moment and enjoy this victory."

You would not bet against him going on to secure an 11th title in Melbourne after a performance like that.

This game couldn't have been better, could it?

It has had so many twists and turns and tactical changes. There has been brilliance from the back and lung-busting rallies.

We really have been treated to something pretty special in this contest.

We don't know how long Novak Djokovic is going to keep going but, whilst we can enjoy such an extraordinary rivalry between the two of them, it is really living up to expectations.

Well, I need to take a deep breath after that service game.

Novak Djokovic has just got nerves of steel. It wasn't looking good at 15-40 in that service game but he just came up with some brilliant serving.

We had some falling over and a bit of everything else in that game!
