Melbourne is a truly international city with diaspora from all over the globe.

The Chinese community is particularly huge, with over 400,000 people of Chinese ancestry here. And anyone who has visited cannot have missed the bright lights of Chinatown, which is also one of the few spots open to grab a late-night meal.

So it’s unsurprising to see and hear a lot of backing for Zheng tonight.

While Rod Laver Arena has thinned a tad since Sabalenka’s match against Gauff, there are lots of Chinese fans who are vocally backing the 12th seed and enthusiastically waving their Five-star Red Flags.

You don't get through all the matches that Dayana Yastremska has gotten through in this event without understanding how to fight back, how to compete, how to turn matches around, how to turn sets around.

She's used to digging in and some of that becomes more automatic in these moments.
