He hasn't done too much wrong but it is more panic that the tactics that Carlos Alcaraz has brought in will be very difficult for him.

It has been a relatively solid start from Damir Dzumhur but after that loss on serve he could pretty swiftly find himself trailing 4-1.

And there it is. Alcaraz is closing in on the opening set in quick fashion.

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 2 and BBC Sounds

Damir Dzumhur is hitting the ball well, he is striking the ball cleanly.

He's getting great depth on it and he is not allowing Carlos Alcaraz to dictate from the baseline.

He has come into this match with a really aggressive attitude.

    Dzumhur 1-1 Alcaraz*

A slight delay to the start of this second game as some spectators take their seats - Damir Dzumhur does not look pleased as he waits for the nod from the umpire.

Carlos Alcaraz is chasing from the outset but a cross-court winner and then drop shot bring him level. 30-30.

But it's a composed finish from Dzumhur to get on the board.

    *Dzumhur 0-1 Alcaraz

    Annabel Croft

It's interesting how full it is in here because so many times at the very beginning of these matches, you see people wandering in and they take a bit of time to get here but everybody wants to be in their seats ready for Carlos Alcaraz which just tells you what a star he is.

There's something special about him and people want to witness it and they don't want to miss a moment of watching him play.

Alcaraz is the best at movement into that forward area. He's never fazed by any crisis situation, he is always so relaxed and very joyful.

    *Dzumhur 0-0 Alcaraz

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 2 and BBC Sounds

I think all of these players live for these moments. Damir Dzumhur plays most of his tennis in different places, he won't have been on the big courts unless he is playing big names which is difficult for him with his ranking at number 69 in the world.

What an opportunity to play with freedom against one of the young guns, one of the young pretenders, I think he will really enjoy it.

Carlos Alcaraz arrived at the French Open with momentum on his side after winning titles in Monte Carlo and Rome during the clay-court swing.

The 22-year-old has won 17 of his 18 matches on clay this year and is aiming to become the first man since compatriot Rafael Nadal in 2020 to retain the Roland Garros title.

Alcaraz beat Alexander Zverev in last year's French Open final.

  15. 'I expect Alcaraz will make it through'published at 19:31 British Summer Time 30 May

    Dzumhur v Alcaraz

    Ryan Harrison
Former American tennis player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 2 and BBC Sounds

I know Damir Dzumhur really well, he's my year, I grew up with him. He's a really tough competitor, he's been up to around [number] 20 in the world.

He's extremely fast, he's one of the fastest players out there. He moves around a lot. I expect to see a lot of really long, exciting points.

The big thing will be the way Carlos Alcaraz strikes the ball, he hits a lot bigger balls, Dzumhur has a great drop shot.

This might be the match of the best drop shots that are in the game right now. Alcaraz has that extremely famous drop shot, [Daniil] Medvedev and others have talked about it and Dzumhur has an incredible drop shot as well so I expect to see some really fun, electric points but I do expect that Alcaraz will make it through.

They do some things similarly but it seems like the serve for Alcaraz is a lot more powerful and the way he strikes the ball has a little more force behind it.

It's almost time for today's main event on Philippe Chatrier with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz set to face Damir Dzumhur for a spot in round four.

Alcaraz cruised through his first match, beating Italy's Giulio Zeppieri in straight sets, but it wasn't smooth sailing against Fabian Marozsan on Wednesday - requiring four sets to advance.

Bosnia's Dzumhur has never been beyond the third round at the French Open in six previous attempts and has failed to get beyond the first round of qualifying in each of the past four years.

  20. 'Happy with the performance'published at 16:09 British Summer Time 30 May

    Cristian 2-6 5-7 Swiatek

Fifth seed Iga Swiatek speaks after beating Romania's Jaqueline Cristian: "I'm just happy that I was super solid and didn't give any free points but she used her chances. she went for it every time I gave her a chance. It was a great match, pretty entertaining. We both played nice and I'm happy that I am through and happy with the performance."

On the conditions: "I don't mind and on clay it gives the balls the extra bounce. I had to balance it well when it is hotter. Before it was 20 degrees when I played my first match but today it was 30 degrees. It is not easy to adjust but I have played in every condition. Last year at the Olympics it was super hot so I was ready for it. You need to change in different conditions, adjusting the equipment is the best way. I went one kilo up on both strings."

On the crowd: "I think that is the first time I had a [Mexican] wave during a match so thank you. Thank you guys."
