    *Sinner 6-3 0-1 Zverev

That's better from Alexander Zverev. This time he stays in the rally for long enough without doing anything too bold, and it's Jannik Sinner who makes the first mistake.

The German races to the net to put away another winner before Sinner finds the fence, but that smash from Zverev is far too long.

He redeems himself with an ace and is first on the scoreboard in this second set.

How do you beat Jannik Sinner when he's playing like this?

Alexander Zverev doesn't know. The German second seed's morale must have taken a serious pounding after those final couple of games.

Sinner thumped everything back from the baseline with venom, somehow stretched to reach anything flung short and finished off the set with a precise ace out wide.

    Perfection.

Unsurprisingly, Alexander Zverev takes a break off court before the start of the second set.

He didn't get a sniff in that first set - zero break points. What can he do now?

That was just a terrible approach shot. I don't know what Alexander Zverev was thinking there!

It was almost panic in his eyes after he got the short ball from Jannik Sinner, came in on the backhand and maybe just changed his mind.

Zverev was all over the place trying to throw his racquet at the ball, but there was no way he could possibly win the point when he moved towards the net.

    *Sinner 5-3 Zverev

How Jannik Sinner won that point, I don't know!

Alexander Zverev had plenty of the court to aim for but he sends the ball straight at the Italian at the net and then again before Sinner dinks over a cross-court winner. Superb.

And that's three set points for the reigning champ.

And this time he gets it!

Alexander Zverev had control of that point, but his approach shot sets Jannik Sinner up perfectly for the pass and the German is left with his head in his hands.

The defending champion will now serve for the opener.

The serve down the middle comes up clutch again for Alexander Zverev, but there's another disappointing miss into the net.

He just can't get this game over the line.

Alexander Zverev has the chance to get the hold over and done with, but we're taken back to deuce as he takes too much time over a backhand volley and flings it long.

There is quite a similar pattern of play that we are getting in this match.

We aren't having lots of slices, angles, drop shots and different point play. It's very similar each point so it's going to be about who can get on top in each rally.

  19. Postpublished at 09:21 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Sinner 4-3 Zverev*

This hasn't been the most thrilling of finals so far. A lot of back and forth between the baselines with not much excitement in the middle.

Alexander Zverev is in deep conversation with the umpire during the change over. He seems to be complaining that the racquets he sent to the stringer have yet to return.

  20. Sinner holdspublished at 09:19 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Sinner 4-3 Zverev*

Jannik Sinner whizzes a sublime cross-court overhead winner past Alexander Zverev, but two unforced errors form the Italian follow and we go to 30-30.

He holds up a clenched fist as he lands a huge 127mph serve and Zverev can't pull closer again as he plants into the net.
