Madison Keys is one of those players where you go why hasn't she got a Grand Slam title?

In my opinion, it's the mental thing.

Will this match go the distance? Madison Keys seals the very next point by forcing Iga Swiatek into an error.

No celebration, just a look containing a small hint of relief.

    Shotttttt.

Madison Keys is the premier returner. She sets up a double break point with a spicy crosscourt forehand return winner.

Both players know their opponents weaknesses and they are going to those spots pretty well.

That'll do Madison Keys the world of good. An unreturnable second serve to hold to 30.

The American has built herself a platform at the start of the second set.

Eek! A stat has just popped up on my screen that Madison Keys has only won three of her 13 points on second serve. Hardly semi-final-worthy form that.

She slips to 0-30, but rallies with a forehand crosscourt winner that takes us to 30-30.

Again, the crowd witness a peppering of quality and get on their feet, encouraging more.

Madison Keys has lost a bit of confidence with the down the line backhand so she is going cross-court, she will try and build up the confidence and then go for an occasional down the line so Iga Swiatek has got to be aware she is going to go cross-court at this stage.

Just what Madison Keys needed. The American attacks her opponent, constantly stepping up the court on her way to a break to 15.

The second set is starting just like the first did.

Hello to everyone just joining us. These two are in a right battle for the right to play Aryna Sabalenka in Saturday's final.

The tennis wasn't that great in the first set, with both players consistently struggling on serve.

But there was enough moments of magic to keep us on our toes. I expect it to click for one of these two very shortly.

Before attention switched to the women's semi-finals, the big talking point today at Melbourne Park surrounded Novak Djokovic.

    It often does.

We're all intrigued to see what shape Djokovic - who injured his upper left leg in his quarter-final win over Carlos Alcaraz - will be in when he faces Alexander Zverev in tomorrow's men's semi-finals.

The 10-time men's champion was supposed to practice in the afternoon, but disappeared off the schedule about lunchtime and did not hit as planned.

His name is down for a session at 13:00 local time tomorrow - less than a couple of hours before he plays Zverev.

Don't read too much into it. Djokovic also didn't practise between matches in his run to the 2023 title - then revealed he had a 3cm tear in his hamstring.

She gets it. Iga Swiatek pumps her fist as Madison Keys nets a backhand.

Backhand winner down the line, Swiatek.

    30-40. Set point number two.

Right then, Madison Keys is serving to stay in the set for a second time in 20 minutes.

Iga Swiatek leaps on her serve and starts with a return winner. But Keys returns with a class shot of her own, hammering a forehand down the line, deep into the corner.

That previous game was good game for Madison Keys, she regrouped after that horrendous smash but big, fast and heavy into the forehand side.

We talked about Iga Swiatek getting a bit buzzy with her forehand, it sort of floats in the middle of the court, lots of topspin and that's exactly what happened there, she didn't have anything on that.

This is really intriguing because I don't think Iga Swiatek has been pushed this hard this fortnight.

She's putting in a strong response for now. She holds to love.

    Oh my!

You won't see a worse shot this tournament.

Madison Keys waits and waits to hit an overhead smash, but buries it into the net from a yard away.

40-30. She takes the next point though so it doesn't matter. That's the crucial hold.

It's a fascinating match, it's a real mental battle out here and both ladies really started off nervously and couldn't settle at all and Madison Keys has just continued to spray shots everywhere.

The last couple of games she has played really well.

Iga Swiatek drops to one knee as she sees her low forehand clatter into the net.

The Pole needs to find her Plan B. She had the chance to strike a winner at set point. But that's gone now.

  20. Keys breaks backpublished at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Keys 4-5 Swiatek

    We're back on serve!

After saving a set point, Madison Keys then breaks. She almost has the point wrapped up early, as Iga Swiatek clips the net.

But she never lets the Pole back into the rally, and Swiatek ends up backhanding a flat one long.
