Alistair Brownlee secures triathlon relay world gold for Britain

Great Britain's triathletes won gold at the Mixed Relay World Championships to claim their third title in four years.

Alistair Brownlee finished ahead of France's Vincent Luis in the final leg in Hamburg with Hungary in third.

Lucy Hall began the race for Britain, followed by Alistair's brother Jonny with Vicky Holland on the third leg.

"It was a great team performance," said Alistair. "I think Jonny had the standout leg but everyone was great and we're happy to win it again."

Jonny Brownlee began his leg in eighth, 21 seconds behind the leading pack, after Hall's transition to the bike was delayed when she caught her shin on her cycle.

He caught the leaders on the second of the two bike laps and was able to hand Holland a 20-second lead from Australia.

Alistair Brownlee began his leg in the leading group of five athletes before sprinting clear of Luis in the final run.

Hall said: "To be in a team with the Brownlees and Vicky, you can't go too far wrong with that.

"It was a tough race, especially after racing yesterday, but I enjoyed every minute of it."

Britain won the event in 2011 and 2012 but at the 2013 race, Non Stanford crashed her bike when she was leading.

Alistair Brownlee secured victory ahead of Luis in the Triathlon World Series elite men's race on Saturday.

In the mixed relay format, each athlete completes a 300m swim, 6.6km bike ride and 1.6km run.

The event makes its debut at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on 26 July.
