'Jody would have gone on to manage Tyrone' - Canavan

Peter Canavan and Feargal Logan pay tribute to their late Tyrone team-mate Jody Gormley who died on Monday evening at the age of 53 after a battle with cancer.

"It's news we were expecting but still when you hear about it, there's a rawness to it and there's something not right to it either," said Canavan, who along with Logan, was a team-mate of Gormley in the 1995 All-Ireland Football Final.

"He was very forthright in his opinions on football and life in general.

"The way he was going and the manner he was managing teams, I think he would have got the chance to manage Tyrone at some stage but I just feel for his family and his close friends."

Logan said Gormley had faced up to cancer "like he faced up to every football battle, with absolute positivity".

"You'd be talking about who you were going to mark…..Jody wanted the big name. He wanted the big player because like this battle, he wanted to face them down and wanted to do his best for Tyrone," added 2021 All-Ireland winning Tyrone joint-manager Logan.
