Wales will play Keighley Cougars in a fundraising match for the family of Welsh international Danny Jones.

The 29-year-old died as a result of a rare heart condition after collapsing during a League One game at London Skolars on 3 May.

The match, subject to clearance by the authorities, will take place at Cougar Park on Sunday, 25 October.

"The [Wales] players have all put their hands up and agreed to play for nothing," Wales coach John Kear said.

"Danny was very popular in the Welsh camp.

"I tried to get him to play in last year's European Championship but he turned it down because his wife Liz was heavily pregnant and I think that demonstrates what a family man he was.

"Both Keighley and Wales have agreed a date and a venue and now it's subject to approval from the RFL.

"The match fits in with our schedule but, regardless of that, we would have wanted to play it because we just want to do the best we can for his family."

Keighley will pay the remainder of Jones's contract into a trust fund for his five-month-old twins.

The deal ran until the end of the season and a third of the gate receipts from last Sunday's home game against Coventry will also be donated.

The fund has so far raised more than £120,000.

Jones's funeral will take place in Halifax on 22 May, with his wife Lizzie asking those in attendance to wear rugby league shirts.
