Elise Christie targets medal success at 2014 Winter Olympics

Elise Christie says she is determined to hold on to her spot as world number one short-track speed skater ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The 22-year-old Scot went top of the rankings last month - 16 months before the Winter Olympics begin in Sochi.

But Christie wants a prolonged run as world number one as she sets her sights on Olympic success in Russia.

"It's nice to be world number one but now I have to stay there," Christie told BBC Sport.

Livingston skater Christie admits her new number one title has given her extra confidence as she targets Olympic success.

She added: "Before I was going through training thinking: 'Am I doing enough?'. Now I know what I am doing is enough.

"I didn't go into this year thinking: 'I'm going to go out and win loads of medals.'

"I went into this year thinking: 'I need to work on my weaknesses.'

"My plan is to skate to my strengths so that by the time I get to Sochi, if stuff doesn't go my way, I can still have that chance to win."
