    Durham 358 & 88-2 v Essex 488 - Durham trail by 42 runs

Too little, too late for Essex?

The ball is beginning to spin a little here and Matt Critchley has his first wicket to break a 75-run second-wicket stand.

He lands one on a perfect length, it turns and takes the shoulder of Colin Ackermann's bat. Jordan Cox does the rest at first slip.

David Bedingham comes to the crease with a little work still to do.

  5. Landmark on horizon for Leespublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358 & 87-1 v Essex 488 - Durham trail by 43 runs

Looks like Essex are opening with the spin twins of Matt Critchley and Simon Harmer after tea.

Alex Lees is closing in on 8,000 career runs in the County Championship, He needs 11 more. It would also mark his half-century should he get there.

He gets one of them from Critchley's opening over.

  6. Teatime at Chester Roadpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 29 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec & 141-3, Worcestershire 451-9 dec

Somerset still trail Worcestershire by one run as they go to tea at Chester Road.

Tom Lammonby (52) and Andy Umeed (41) have added only a further 73 runs in another grim session.

Geoffrey Boycott would no doubt have loved this. Not too many of the windswept watchers would feel the same way.

  7. Tea in Division Twopublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 29 April

Ollie Price (23*) and Cameron Bancroft (30*) have steadied the ship for Gloucestershire since Chris Dent’s early departure, however they still need 262 runs to win against Middlesex.

Yorkshire are 13-0 in their second innings against Derbyshire and lead by 16 runs.

  8. After-lunch wind problem in Kidderminsterpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 29 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec & 141-3, Worcestershire 450-8 dec

One of the main themes of this afternoon's BBC radio commentary is just how much the wind has got up at Chester Road.

It woudn't normally be something to comment about - but the media team are spending this week under canvas in a press tent at Worcestershire's makeshift second home.

You can hear the wind on the effects microphone - and the occupants sound rather concerned that the tent will actually stay rooted to the ground.

Last over before tea coming up.

Durham have negotiated a potentially tricky spell after Scott Borthwick’s early departure to all but secure a draw with Essex.

Alex Lees (39 not out) and Colin Ackermann (29 not out) have taken the hosts to 84-1 after Essex lost their last four wickets for 38 runs in a post-lunch dash to try and force a result.

Durham trail Essex’s first innings total by 46 with one session of the match remaining.

We can only wonder what might have been had day three not been lost to the rain.

    Durham 358 & 48-1 v Essex 488 – Durham trail by 98 runs

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

If Essex don't take wickets by 5pm the deficit might be down to say 20 or 30 and then you probably would call it off.

But Essex will want to keep the contest going.

It's a long journey, particularly as they travel to Taunton for the next game.

  13. Haseeb Hameed into double figurespublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 29 April

    Notts 400 & 35-1, Warwickshire 361

With seemingly nothing to play for here in Birmingham, Notts skipper Haseeb Hameed has at least made the stattos half sit up and take notice.

He has moved into double figures. And that completes his set of four straight matches this season in which he has managed one failure and one proper double-figure score.

    For the record . . .

    34 and 10 v Essex

    11 and 40 v Worcestershire

    0 and 20 v Somerset

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset's fourth-wicket pair Tom Lammonby (40) and Andy Umeed (33) have now completed a half-century partnership.

Slow progress from Somerset - two runs an over or there about. But, in all honesty, we didn't expect anything else.

    Durham 358 & 48-1 v Essex 488 – Durham trail by 82 runs

  18. Division Two - Derbyshire all out for 447published at 15:17 British Summer Time 29 April

Derbyshire finish on 447 to trail Yorkshire by three runs. Zak Chappell’s big-hitting effort was a highlight later in the innings with his 78 coming in 61 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes.

Peter Handscomb (99*) is creeping towards a century - he seems to have been in the 90s for an age. Leicestershire trail Northants by 122 runs.

  19. Postpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358 & 32-1 v Essex 488 – Durham trail by 98 runs

Alex Lees has a scary moment after Shane Snater induces him into chipping a delivery towards mid-on but it drops short of the fielder.

  20. wicket

WICKET: Duckett lbw b Hannon-Dalby 7published at 15:09 British Summer Time 29 April

    Notts 400 & 12-1, Warwickshire 361

After his seven-hour 218 in the first innings, Nottinghamshire's England opener Ben Duckett lasts just six balls second time around.

He had his stumps rearranged trying to reverse sweep occasional spinner Dan Mousley in the first innings.

This time round he is at least the victim of a more regular form of dismissal - LBW OHD.

There are a fair few who have perished that way. But, if Duckett had departed cheaply in the first inings, this match sure might have taken a more interesting course.

New Notts man is Ben Slater.

After his first-innings five-fer OHD's wicket takes him to 12 scalps for the season, edging him ahead of unlikely leader Rob Yates as the Bears' top wicket taker this season.
