Almost a quarter of Shetland schools set to close
- Published
Shetland Islands Council has started the process to close almost a quarter of its schools.
Councillors voted to begin formal consultation to shut two junior secondaries and five primaries, after two-and-half hours of debate.
The schools move is aimed at saving up to £6m.
Any closures will be subject to further consultation and it would be at least the summer of 2011 before any actually close their doors.
