Met officers cleared of expenses fraud during 7/7 probe

Two Metropolitan Police (Met) officers have been cleared of inflating their expenses bill while they were investigating the 7 July attacks.

Det Sgt Nevill Caldecourt, 50, and Peter Allbut, 45, from the Specialist Operations Unit, were accused of overcharging for flat rentals in Leeds.

They were were cleared of conspiracy to defraud and misconduct in a public office in Southwark Crown Court.

The prosecution offered no evidence against them in the court.

The counter-terrorism officers were cleared of allegations of trying to make a secret profit between 1 April 2006 and 30 September 2007.

Det Con Daren Pooley, 40, his wife Nicola, 39, and her sister Michelle Butler, 49, all deny conspiracy to defraud and will face trial in October.

Ms Butler's husband Stephen, 58, admitted the charge in May.

All four 7 July suicide bombers, Mohammed Siddique Khan, Shehzad Tanweer, Jermain Lindsay and Hasib Hussain were from Leeds.
