Melanie Hall murder suspect is released on police bail

Miss Hall went missing in June 1996

A man who was arrested on suspicion of the murder and disappearance of Melanie Hall, from Wiltshire, has been released on bail.

The 38-year-old, from Bath, was arrested after going voluntarily to the city's Manvers Street police station on Thursday.

Miss Hall was 25 when she vanished after a night out in Bath in June 1996.

Her remains were discovered on a slip road at junction 14 of the M5 in South Gloucestershire in October 2009.

The former graduate was identified by a gold ring given to her by her grandmother.

Miss Hall had been at Cadillacs nightclub in Walcot Street, Bath, before she disappeared.

The psychology graduate from Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, worked as a clerical officer in the Orthopaedic Department at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Her remains were found by a workman clearing the side of the M5 in South Gloucestershire on 5 October 2009.

Det Supt Mike Courtiour, of Avon and Somerset Police, said: "The arrest was a significant part of a complex and difficult ongoing investigation.

"There was no requirement to keep this man is custody for any longer. He is now on bail and may be spoken to again as part of our continuing investigation.

"I once again urge anyone with information to come forward and provide us with the information and evidence we need to identify Melanie's killer or killers and bring them to justice."
