A climber has been injured after getting caught in an avalanche in the Cairngorms.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT) was called out at 16:30 on Wednesday to Central Gully in Coire an t-Sneachda.

A male climber sustained a lower leg injury and his climbing partner was uninjured.

The rescue team returned to base at 23:30 after hauling the man to safety and carrying him by stretcher to a ski area.

CMRT said: "With conditions deteriorating we were able to lower down one of our team to the climbers, then attach them to our rigging set up and haul them up to safety."

The team thanked Cairngorm Mountain snowsports centre staff for their assistance during the rescue.
