Man appears in court after death of woman in Newmilns

A 26-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a woman in East Ayrshire.

Michelle Thomson, 47, was pronounced dead about 12:20 on Tuesday after officers were called to an address in Newmilns.

Sam Kelly, of the East Ayrshire area, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday facing a single charge of murder.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody, with the case being committed for further examination.

He is due to appear back in court within the next eight days.
