The Post Office says its branch in Inverness' Queensgate will remain open until Christmas Eve before closing for good.
Services are being relocated from the city centre site to a Co-op supermarket on nearby Church Street. The new branch will open to customers on 27 November.
A spokesperson said: "We recognise Post Office branches can become busier as the Christmas season approaches.
"Whilst the Post Office in the Inverness Co-op is due to be fully open, we have decided to continue services at the current Inverness Post Office until Christmas Eve."
There had been concerns locally about the Queensgate closure.
Inverness and Nairn MSP Fergus Ewing said the relocation was a good outcome to a worrying situation.
The relocation is part of wider plans by the Post Office to change to a fully franchised network, which it said will give it a long-term sustainable future.
The arrangement expands on an existing partnership between the Post Office and the supermarket, with more than 200 branches operating from Co-op stores across the UK.
Over 99% of the Post Office network is already operated on a franchise basis.
