The council says work to the Grade II-listed Corporation Road Bridge have been progressing

Footpaths across Corporation Road Bridge in Grimsby will be closed on several days in November.

The Grade II-listed bridge has been closed to vehicles since February 2023 while a £5m restoration project takes place.

North East Lincolnshire Council said work to the bridge's decks was continuing and designs for the lifting span and reinforced concrete deck designs were nearing completion.

To take advantage of anticipated low tides, the council said weekend working was required along with footpath closures to ensure the safety of both the public and the contractor.

The bridge, which opened in 1925, spans the River Freshney and is a main route into Grimsby town centre.

The work had been expected to last about a year, but, in August, the council said it was not expected to be completed until next summer after it was found to be in a worse-than-expected state.

The south footway will be closed between 09:00 and 16:00 GMT on the following days:

  • Tuesday 5 November

  • Wednesday 6 November

  • Wednesday 13 November

  • Thursday 14 November

  • Tuesday 19 November

  • Wednesday 20 November

  • Wednesday 27 November

  • Thursday 28 November

Weekend work is due to take place on 9, 10, 23 and 24 November, although on these dates the footway would remain open, the council added.

The council said it was important people respect the access restrictions in place, which have been introduced for safety reasons.
