A month-long series of overnight closures on the A21 in Kent has begun, National Highways said.

Sections of the carriageway will close between 20:00 and 06:00 on select dates until 26 April.

The first, between the Vauxhall Interchange and Morleys Roundabout on the Tonbridge bypass, is taking place on dates until10 April.

National Highways said the work, which includes upgrades to signs and road markings, would enhance safety measures.

National Highways said overnight work would be taking place on the Tonbridge Bypass section of the A21 on:

  • 26-27 March

  • 2-5 April

  • 8-10 April

Work then moves on to the Sevenoaks Bypass section on:

  • 12 April

  • 15-20 April

  • 22-26 April

The company said vegetation would be cleared and surveys undertaken alongside the maintenance work.

Hermes Luli, from National Highways, said: "These surveys will help us improving safety as well as replacing and upgrading the signs on the road, part of our wider A21 safety package.”

A number of diversions are in place during the closures and drivers are being advised to check route options and allow extra time for journeys.
