Peer and sports celebs say 'good luck Saints'

Princess Diana's brother has joined local sports celebrities in offering good luck messages to Northampton Saints ahead of the Premiership final.

Earl Spencer said he had seen the Saints in action during the semi-final and they deserved to win.

Northampton Town FC captain, Jon Guthrie, has said the whole county is "rooting for you".

The Saints will take on Bath in the finale at Twickenham on Saturday.

Earl Spencer, whose family home is at Althorp near Northampton, recorded a video message, external saying he was "lucky enough to be at the semi-final [against Saracens] and they deserve to go the full distance".

He added: "Here's hoping for a superb, unforgettable win."

Cricket star Allan Lamb says Northampton deserve to win because they are playing better rugby than Bath.

Cricket legend Allan Lamb, who led his Northamptonshire side to victory in the 1992 NatWest Trophy, said the Saints team had worked really hard this season.

He added: "This is the prize you've all been wanting, you've all committed for each other, defended for each other, tackled for each other and I know you're the better side.

"You're playing the better rugby - go take the bacon home and enjoy it."

Memories of the Saints' nail-biting Premiership final in 2014 were evoked by Gavin Warren, the longest-serving county club chairman in English cricket.

He steps down from the role at Northamptonshire in October.

Warren - in his video message, external - said he was "really excited" about Saturday's final and added: "Go smash it lads!"

The Cobblers manager, Jon Brady, believes the Saints can win

The manager and captain of the Cobblers have both sent messages to the team, whose Franklin's Gardens stadium is just down the road from their own ground.

Jon Brady, in his third year in charge at Sixfields, wished "Saints rugby, Phil Dowson, his staff, all the team, all the supporters going down there, all the very best for Saturday.

"Come on, Saints, you can do it!"

Brady's captain Jon Guthrie told the team: "You've obviously got the whole of Northampton rooting for you, so make sure you bring it home, lads!"
