A further series of footpath closures has been announced as work continues on a bridge in Grimsby.

The 99-year-old Corporation Road Bridge has been closed to traffic since February 2023 as part of a £5m restoration project.

North East Lincolnshire Council said some weekend working was required in order to take advantage of anticipated low tides, but footpaths would remain open during those sessions.

The authority said work on the Grade II-listed structure's decks had been progressing, with sections of scaffolding and temporary coverings also in the process of being removed.

The bridge, which opened in 1925, is a main route into Grimsby town centre.

It had been initially hoped that the work would be completed by December 2023, but the structure was found to be in a worse state than expected.

Weekend working will take place between 12-13 October and 26-27 October.

Closures to the south footpath, running between 09:00-16:00 BST, will take place on:

  • Wednesday 2 October

  • Thursday 3 October

  • Tuesday 8 October

  • Wednesday 16 October

  • Thursday 17 October

  • Tuesday 22 October

  • Wednesday 30 October

  • Thursday 31 October
